Preparing your garden for autumn

Preparing your garden for autumn

With the end of summer and the autumn weather on the horizon, how are you going to go about preparing your garden for the colder months? At MB Wilkes we recommend carrying out the following autumn gardening tasks in order to keep on top of the garden in preparation for the new season.

 Mow the lawn

This is always a good place to start. Mowing the lawn is highly likely a task that you’ve been doing all year round anyway as part of garden maintenance, regardless of the season, so this task shouldn’t be anything that breaks routine. However, in case you need reminding – give your grass a good cut before the wet and frosty weather set it, or else it could prove difficult to get a chance to do so over the proceeding months.

Clean and clear the garden

Just as you would spring clean your house, don’t forget to autumn clean your garden. Cut back plants and clear out the shed and greenhouse before you clear your garden items away for winter. It is also a good time to pressure wash the patio or scrub down the decking if you have any. This will stop excessive dirt and grime build up occurring over the wet winter months.

Prevent leaves from building up

This task is more of an active one which you should be doing during the autumn months, when the leaves from the trees are falling. You shouldn’t let them build up as the could turn to mulch before you know it, becoming slippery and potentially hazardous.

Add gravel

Gravel is ideal for improving drainage in your garden or driveway, particulalry during these upcoming rainy months! You can buy gravel online via our website - we'll deliver direct to your door!

Check your gutters

You should also check your gutters for leaf build-up, as well grime, dirt and other debris. Doing this will ensure that your gutters don’t get clogged up over the winter and therefore last longer in the long-term. The last thing you want to have to call someone out to repair or even worse, replace you guttering.
